Vietnam wins gold at int’l Olympiad in Informatics
PANO - All four Vietnamese students at the 30th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2018) won medals, according to the Department of Quality Management under the Ministry of Education and Training on September 7.

The gold medal went to Pham Duc Thang, a year-12 student of the High School for Gifted Students of the University of Science under the Vietnam National University-Hanoi. Hoang Xuan Nhat from the High School for Gifted Students of the Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City bagged a silver medal.
The two bronze medalists were Thang’s schoolmates Nguyen Hoang Hai Minh and Nguyen Khanh.
IOI 2018, which took place in Japan from September 1-7, drew 335 students from 87 countries and territories worldwide. One hundred and sixty seven students won medals, including 29 golds, 55 silvers, and 83 bronzes.
With all four students winning medals, the Vietnamese delegation ranked 2nd in the Southeast Asian region and 12th among the attending countries.
This year, all of the 38 Vietnamese students competing at regional and international Olympiads won prizes with 13 golds, 14 silvers and 11 bronzes. This impressive outcome has reaffirmed Vietnamese high school students’ position in the international academic field.
