PANO - The Vietnam Association for Protection of Children’s Rights (VAPCR) will work with the Vietnam Journalists’ Association to initiate awards for good press articles on the protection of children’s rights this year.
It is among the big objectives for this year that the VAPCR approved at the fifth conference of the 2nd VAPCR’s Central Committee for the 2013-2018 term on March 26 in Hanoi.
Other objectives include further raising public awareness of the protection of children’s rights work, guiding and organizing professional activities, boosting coordination among agencies and social organizations to popularizing information, and making recommendations to agencies in charge of children’s rights protection and crafting policies on children’s rights.
The VAPCR also targets to organize more seminars, forums and training courses to collect more opinions from children and to discuss measures to protect children from sexual abuse and other kinds of violence.
Addressing the conference, Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Hong Lan hoped that the VAPCR would continue to fulfill its mission of protecting children’s rights and promote its role and status as well as build mechanisms to connect, collect information and opinions from social organizations on protection of children’s rights.
Last year, the association organized a number of annual events such as “Tet (New Year) of compassion”, “Light up dreams” and scholarships-granting for tens of thousands of children nationwide; and gave legal consultancy on the work; as well as promoted the engagement of children in different areas. Moreover, it and other member associations in cities and provinces mobilized more than VND 40 billion in both kind and cash to support some 50,000 children.
