Movement for gender equality
PANO – The United Nations (UN) Women and the Vietnam Volunteer Center (VVC), in association with relevant agencies, launched a movement themed “Speak up for gender equality" on November 24 in Hanoi.
The event began with a journey of four buses carrying the message of ending violence against women and girls, which started from four universities and high schools in Hanoi (Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Transportation and Bac Thang Long High School).

The journey saw the participation of the Ambassadors of Norway, New Zealand, and Switzerland and Head of Office of UN Women Vietnam, Country Director of Plan International, Vice President of Youth Union Federation, Mrs Worldwide 2018 Duong Thuy Linh, and over 100 Hanoi students.
During the journey, delegates and students had an opportunity to exchange and discuss topics related to gender equality.
Speaking at the event, Nguyen Hai Minh, member of the Standing Board of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Deputy President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Federation, said that the event offered direct talks among diplomats, celebrities and youths. The bus journey featured true stories about the people who made contributions to improving gender equality. In addition, it is also to recognize and promote Vietnamese women’s role in the national development, he added.
Following the movement launch, a series of events in response to the National Action Month to take action against gender-based violence and the Global 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence will take place across the country to raise the voices of agencies, international organizations, civil society and survivors in the fight to end all forms of gender-based violence.
