In the letter, PM Phuc said that he was deeply touched to know that during storm Damrey, Luan and his colleagues had bravely operated a speedboat to rescue the distressed at sea.

“On behalf of the Government, I warmly commended and highly appreciated the high sense of chivalrousness, responsibility and kindheartedness of Nguyen Ba Luan and your colleagues. It demonstrates the national tradition of mutual love and “love your neighbors as yourself”, the letter wrote.

The PM also asked the leadership of the South Central coastal provinces to further direct the relief work and assist the locals in stabilizing their life and putting production back to normality as soon as possible, closely follow complicated developments of would-be natural disasters and proactively roll out preventive measures and search and rescue plans to ensure safety for the locals and their property.

* Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health sent an urgent official document to the health departments in 15 provinces and cities in the Central and Central Highlands provinces which were badly impacted by storm Damrey.

The Health Ministry requested relevant agencies to concentrate on ensuring environmental sanitation and fresh water for local people to avoid any occurrence of epidemic diseases. The involved agencies should instruct local people how to collect and treat dead animals, clean up wells and water tanks as well.

* The Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society called on its affiliates in provinces and cities nationwide to raise money and donate goods to support the storm victims. More support from benefactors could be sent to the Red Cross Societies at provincial and city-levels to be later given to the victims.

* On November 8, in Da Nang city, on behalf of the Government of Vietnam, the Department of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control in Central Vietnam and Central Highlands under the General Department of Natural Disaster Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development received 105 water filters presented by the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The gifts were expected to ensure fresh water for flood victims.

That was the second relief drive launched by the Japanese Government for Vietnamese flood victims this year. The first relief was handed over to people in Yen Bai and Hoa Binh provinces.
