Nhi Dong 2 Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City on December 17 performed an operation to transplant a kidney taken from a non-blood relation living donor for a 9-year-old kid.
This is the first kidney transplant of its kind and the 10 th on children that Nhi Dong 2 has conducted to date.
The kidney recipient, Nguyen Xuan Khanh, from central highlands Lam Dong province, was at the end-stage of kidney failure before the operation. Khanh has no blood ties with his donor.
Both the transplanted kid and the donor are being monitored closely.
