Speaking at the event, Chief of the National Traffic Safety Committee’s Office Nguyen Trong Thai said that although the number of deaths due to traffic accidents in Vietnam decreased by fewer than 9,000 persons per year, the consequences of traffic accidents remained unmatched for victims, their families and the community. On a daily average, there are 24 dead and 60 injured in traffic accidents. Road accidents involved motorbikes accounted for 70 percent of total accidents, with 30 percent of cases of brain injury resulting in death.

The youth festival, featuring a number of activities such as a dissemination parade on traffic safety; traffic safety skills training for students and locals, is a meaningful activity in response to the Year of Traffic Safety 2017 themed “Building traffic culture for youths.”

The festival’s activities contributed to building the awareness of traffic culture, observance of law, traffic safety and order among youths, preventing and controlling major risks of traffic accidents.

On the occasion, representatives of grassroots Youth Union organizations in the province signed a commitment document in response to the campaign “the youth with the traffic culture.” In addition, the organizing panel also presented 10 gifts, worth VND 500,000 each, to 10 disadvantaged students with good academic records.
