According to Cao Chi Cong, Deputy Head of the Forest Administration Office under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the sector will instruct localities to effectively implement 40 afforestation projects in coastal areas, make plans on coastal forest protection and development and encourage local people and other economic sectors to actively get involved in the work to be responded to climate change.

Under the forest development project for 2018, the Administration of Forestry has seriously checked the origin of tree varieties and guided localities nationwide to properly prepare seed trees for the 2018 tree-planting festival.

Cong also emphasized last year’s positive outcomes in forest protection and forest fire prevention and fire-fighting with damaged forest area and violations reducing by 68 percent and 23 percent respectively against the previous year. And the forestry sector targets to reduce the violation cases and damaged forest area by 20 percent and 30 percent, respectively in comparison with 2017.

Besides, the sector will enhance coordination with localities to realize forest fire prevention and fire-fighting and deforestation prevention plans in the 2017-2018 dry season; follow closely any developments in forest and weather forecast to device timely measures to any emerging circumstances while maintaining round-the-clock duties.

Regarding the development of specialized and protection forest and coastal protection forest in the time to come, the Deputy Head of the Administration of Forestry said that the sector will focus on researching and making suggestions to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Government to make polices on sustainable financial investment for the operation of specialized and protection forest system to be in line with the Laws on Forestry and State Budget and Public Investment and other regulations on organizing and managing this system.

To realize the Law on Forestry, which will take effect in January 1, 2019, the sector will submit four decrees and seven circulars to ensure the enforcement of the law and cooperate with related agencies to compile documents introducing the law to the public.
