Forestry law gets approval from National Assembly
The 14th National Assembly (NA) ratified a draft law on forestry on November 15 as part of its ongoing fourth session in Hanoi.
The 14th NA ratifies a draft law on forestry.
Approved by 87.78 percent of the deputies, the forestry law comprises 12 chapters with 108 articles stipulating management, protection, development and use of forests, along with processing and trade of forest products.
The law regulates that the State is in charge of issuing policies that match socio-economic development, defense and security policies to invest in and mobilize social resources for forestry activities.
It has to organize and support the management, protection and development of commercial forests, while supporting forest recovery, afforestation, along with research and application of science and advanced technology in the field of forestry.
The State is also tasked with training human resources for this sector, providing forest environmental services, managing forests sustainably, processing and trading forest products, and implementing forestry cooperation with foreign partners.
The State has to ensure ethnic minority people and people whose livelihoods depend on forests receive forests and associated land to do agro-forestry-fishery production activities and practice forest-linked culture and belief in line with the Government’s regulations, according to the law.
