Earlier that morning, while returning to Ly Son Island after a fishing trip, local fisherman Ngo Van Minh discovered the injured turtle floating on the sea surface, with its front flippers tightly wrapped in netting. Minh immediately contacted the Ly Son MPA for assistance.
Huynh Ngoc Dung, Director of the Ly Son MPA, said staff were quickly dispatched to the scene. The turtle received first aid, including wound treatment and bandaging, and is now under health monitoring in a rehabilitation enclosure before being reintroduced.
Dung added that in 2024, the MPA successfully rescued and released three sea turtles caught in fishing nets. The unit has also collected several tons of harmful plastic waste to help protect coral reefs and marine life within the protected area.
