Forty-four years ago, on December 2, 1975, the National People's Congress of Laos issued a decision to establish the Lao People's Democratic Republic. This was seen as another resounding victory of the Lao people under the leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party after they had completely liberated the country from the domination of imperialism and colonialism, starting a new development era of peace, independence, democracy, unity and prosperity for the country.
Under the leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the Lao people have gained remarkable achievements in maintaining the national defense and security and developing the socio-economy while continuously raising its status in the international arena and improving people’s living standards.
The Vietnamese people have always regarded the Lao people as brothers and considered the victory of the Lao revolution as the victory of the Vietnamese revolution. We believed that the Lao people would achieve great victories in the national construction and defense cause, contributing to building the Lao country of peace, independence, democracy, unity and prosperity.
As the two neighboring countries with similar geographic features, Vietnam and Laos have enjoyed a close and time-honored traditional friendship. Since the 1930s, the two countries’ revolutionary movements have been attached to each other and increasingly developed under the leadership at first of the same political party – the Indochina Communist Party.
The special relationship between Vietnam and Laos has generated the miraculous material and spiritual strength helping the two countries overcome all hardships and challenges and defeat foreign invaders.
The relationship, which was nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam and Presidents Kaysone Phomvihane and Souphanouvong of Laos in the past, has been vigorously developed and promoted in all walks of life.
The Vietnamese Party, State and people have always attached importance to reinforcing and improving the special solidarity and traditional friendship with the Lao people.
Although the region and world are changing rapidly, the Vietnam-Laos special relationship remains and will always be the invaluable asset of the two nations. This should continuously be strengthened and fostered for the sake of the two peoples and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
