These were the key tasks set by the office during a conference on March 12 to outline its missions this year.

In the coming time, the office will also organize talks with overseas Vietnamese, further create favorable conditions for them to access reliable information channels, as well as effectively promote their resources for the development of the city in particular and the country in general.

Addressing the event, the office’s Chairman Phung Cong Dung urged its staff to promote coordination with relevant agencies, sectors, localities, and units in organizing conferences, seminars, and talks with overseas experts and intellectuals and holding social activities for needy expats and their families in the city.

At the conference, participating overseas Vietnamese recommended several measures to strengthen relations between the city’s leadership and expats and among overseas Vietnamese around the world. They also introduced some effective models to promote connections between the overseas and their families and attract contributions of Vietnamese communities around the world to the city.

According to the office, last year, 424,000 overseas Vietnamese returned to the country through Tan Son Nhat International Airport. They sent a total remittance of over USD 5 billion to their families in the city, of which 70% were invested in production and business.
