Vietnam Military History Museum receives war keepsakes
PANO – War veterans of Division 1 under the former army of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam presented war keepsakes to the Vietnam Military History Museum in Hanoi on August 8.
Division 1, established on December 20, 1965 was the first regular division to be present at the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) battlefield.
During nine years of fighting, Division 1’s troops participated in many battles and gained a number of feats of arms in the Southern theater. For its achievements in wartime, the division was honored with the title “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces.”
About 50 donated objects and 312 photo files were collected by the division’s veterans over a period of nearly two months. Notably, many of the items belonged to generals and the veterans themselves during their fight against American invaders.
At the ceremony, the donators recalled a number of stories and memories relating to their keepsakes.
Speaking at the event, Lieutenant Colonel Mai Thi Ngoc, the museum’s director, affirmed that the museum would preserve and promote the historical values of these important objects and display them at special events, contributing to the education of future generations.
