PANO – The Liaison Board of Regiment 101 (Division 325, Army Corps 2) on September 3 held a get-together for its veterans and to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the foundation day of the regiment (September 5, 1945).

Politburo member Dinh The Huynh addressing the get-together

The meeting was attended by Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat Dinh The Huynh and Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin.

Formed in Hue city in the early days of the revolution, the regiment was first named after Tran Cao Van, a mandarin in the Nguyen Dynasty who sacrificed his life attempting to expel French colonialists out of Vietnam in the early 20th century. Tran Cao Van regiment quickly became a regular unit in the Binh Tri Thien theater, engaging in various major battles and earning resounding victories.

In the resistance war against US imperialists, the regiment was organized into regiments 101a, 101b, 101c, 101d, and 101e, joining major campaigns, including the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, contributing to liberating the South and reunifying the nation. The regiment then undertook the international duty in Cambodia and fought in the border war in the North.

Addressing the meeting, Politburo member Dinh The Huynh expressed his deep thanks to generations of commanders of the regiment in particular and leaders of the Vietnam People’s Army in general for training troops of the regiment into brave, wise and creative people who have contributed to the national construction and protection cause. He hoped that the regiment’s cadres and troops today would further promote the glorious tradition of the unit.
