Ba Ria - Vung Tau's leaders present flower to former prisoners of war at the event.

The event was jointly organized by the Ho Chi Minh municipal and Ba Ria – Vung Tau provincial Departments of Culture and Sports and Con Dao district and was broadcast live on Ho Chi Minh City Television Channel. 

Speaking at the event, Deputy Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh municipal People’s Committee Duong Anh Duc said that to mark the wounded and fallen soldiers' day, Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria – Vung Tau province have cooperated to hold various practical activities to pay gratitude to heroic martyrs and those who rendered good service to the nation.

The official emphasized that the two localities will forever bear in mind the great sacrifices and contribution of former generations. He promised that the Party Committees, authorities and people of Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria – Vung Tau province will bring into play beautiful traditions built by former generations, heighten responsibility, promote self-reliance, strengthen the great national unity, and step up the cause of industrialization, modernization and international integration.

An artistic performance at the event

During the program, performances recalled historical milestones in Con Dao and the development of the district over the past years. Con Dao now has a new look. The island district has become a green pearl in the vast ocean and is firmly on the path of construction and development.

Earlier the same day, Ho Chi Minh City’s Youth Union Chapter held a candle-lit ceremony at Hang Duong War Cemetery.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Secretary of the municipal Youth Union Chapter Truong Minh Tuoc Nguyen emphasized that heroic martyrs and former Con Dao prisoners of war are bright examples for young generations to follow. He added that the city’s youths promised to exert utmost efforts to become good citizens and contribute talent and youth to the national construction and defense cause.
