Quang Tri reburies martyrs’ remains repatriated from Laos
The People’s Committee of central Quang Tri province on May 10 held a ceremony to rebury remains of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts who died in Laos during the wartime.
The remains were found in a mass grave and 21 single graves in the Lao province of Savanakhet.
This was the result of a memorandum of understanding on the search for and repatriation of martyrs’ remains during the 2017-2018 dry season.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri provincial People’s Committee Mai Thuc spoke highly of the traditional friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.
He committed to exerting efforts to search and rebury remains of martyrs who laid down their lives in Quang Tri and Laos.
Vice Mayor of Savanakhet province Khawmphun Tuphaithun expressed his gratitude for the sacrifice of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers to fulfil the international mission for the two nations’ independence and freedom.
Nearly 35,000 Vietnamese soldiers died in Laos and 60,000 others returned home as war invalids.
