In Duc Trong district, veteran Do Xuan Hung has also achieved success with his diversified farming model, including vegetable and flower cultivation, fertilizer production, and livestock raising. As Chairman of the Lam Dong Clean Agriculture Cooperative and a member of the district’s veterans association, Hung’s operations generate over VND 1 billion annually and provide jobs for 40 local workers, many of whom are veterans or their family members, with monthly incomes of VND 7 to 10 million. His fertilizer plant produces 800 to 1,000 tons per year, some of which is donated to support needy farmers in Lam Dong province and nearby localities.

The economic club of the Duc Trong district Veterans’ Association has 58 members, operating 16 enterprises, 2 cooperatives, 2 groups of partnership, and 46 farms, creating jobs for nearly 500 people with monthly incomes of VND 6 to 8.5 million. In Da Huoai district, over 71 percent of members of the local veterans’ association now enjoy a comfortable standard of living, with no members in poverty. The district has four cooperatives, all managed by veterans, specializing in durian production and agro-tourism, providing stable, high incomes for members.

Striving to become good economic development models

Senior Colonel Vu Cong Tien, Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial Veterans’ Association, highlighted the significant impact of the “Exemplary veterans” movement, which has promoted self-reliance and good virtues of Uncle Ho’s soldiers among veterans. Through the movement, veterans have learned to apply science and technology, optimize production, and adopt new business models. From 2019 to 2024, the provincial association has helped 103 families escape poverty and 237 families rise above low-income status, with many veterans excelling in high-value crops like durian, bananas, and high-tech flower cultivation.

Through their creativity and efforts, Lam Dong province’s veterans are building a prosperous future for their communities, embodying the spirit of overcoming difficulties and contributing to the sustainable growth of the local economy.
