Huge bombs deactivated by Son La’s sappers
PANO – Sappers of the Son La provincial Military Command, in collaboration with the Military Command of provincial-level city of Son La and local authorities, deactivated a 600-kg bomb in Sang village of Chieng Xom commune on January 24.

The bomb, 75cm in diameter and 1.5m in length, was found by a local at Km No. 7 on National Road No. 6 in Hom village of Chieng Co commune, Son La city.
According to the Engineering Department of the Son La provincial Military Command, the 600kg bomb was dropped by the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Under the instruction of the provincial Military Command, sappers worked with local authorities to move the bomb to a safer place and successfully deactivated it.
Earlier on January 22, engineers of the Son La provincial Military Command and the Military Command of Thuan Chau district deactivated a 340-kg bomb in Na Lan village of Tong Lanh commune, Thuan Chau district. The bomb, 30cm in diameter and 1.26m in length, was detected by a local while he was laying the foundation of his house.
