Ceremony to commemorate Immortal Regiment in Hanoi
PANO - The Russian Embassy in Vietnam and the Russian Science and Culture Center in Hanoi, on May 8, co-hosted a ceremony to commemorate the Immortal Regiment with the participation of nearly 1,000 people.
This was part of activities to celebrate the 43rd anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam and National Reunification (April 30, 1975), the 64th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory of the Vietnamese people (May 7, 1954) and 73 years since the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of the Russians (May 9, 1945).

Speaking at the event, the Russian Ambassador to Vietnam, Konstantin Vnukov said that the name of "Immortal Regiment" was conferred on the unit in 2012 during the similar parade in Tomsk province, Russia. Since then, this activity has been organized in Russia and many countries around the world. In Vietnam, the movement of "Immortal Regiment" was launched in 2017, he added.
The event's participants are the descendants of soldiers who participated in the Russian Great Patriotic War and the Vietnamese national struggles for independence. They attend the ceremony, holding up their relatives' pictures to honor their sacrifices and contributions to the independence of the Fatherland, freedom and happiness of the people.
The Russian Ambassador also hoped that such an activity will take place annually across provinces and cities of Vietnam.
