Big bomb deactivated in Dien Bien province
PANO - The Dien Bien Phu city’s Military Command in Dien Bien province on April 22 safely handled a bomb left from the war.
Earlier, on April 18, local people in Kha village, Nam Thanh ward found the bomb while digging soil in a nursery garden.
After receiving the information, the command, in coordination with the local authorities, blocked the scene.
This cluster bomb, 1.2m in length, 0.25m in diameter and over 100kg in weight, was used by the French troops during the Dien Bien Phu Campaign (1954).
On April 22, the Dien Bien provincial Military Command sent its engineers, in association with the Dien Bien Phu city’s Military Command, to move the bomb to a safe place for detonation.
Reportedly, this was the ninth bomb detonated by the city's Military Command in the past three years.
