“Zero-VND road” in Central Highlands region
PANO - Previously, local people had to cross narrow and bumpy roads covered by rocks to reach Son Luong, Sung Do and Nam Muoi communes of Van Chan district (Yen Bai province). However, thanks to the care of the local authorities, a “Zero-VND road" linking the three communes has been completed and put into use.
The newly-built road starts from the National Highway 32. In 2020, the section from Son Luong commune to Sung Do and Nam Muoi communes was invested by Yen Bai province in the framework of the grade-five mountainous road.

The road is more than 6.5m wide, having a drainage system, with a total investment of VND 220 billion. Reportedly, as the road construction was under way, the People’s Committee of Van Chan district directed the communes to mobilize local residents to donate lands while building suitable plans to support them.
Accordingly, people in the three communes were well aware of the meaning of the road and volunteered to donate more than 20ha of land. Besides, the local authorities also urged troops and Party members to help locals harvest crops and stabilize their life in a new place. Meanwhile, other households were also encouraged to support the households donating land for the construction.
The noble deeds of local people in the three communes contributed to bringing a new concrete road to the locality. According to Giang A Lu, Vice Chairman of the Sung Do commune People’s Committee, “in 2022, the commune’s per capita income reached VND 14.2 million. In 2023, the commune will focus on promoting the restructuring of crops and livestock, raising cattle and poultry, among others. The convenience of travelling will pave the way for the locality to develop local socio-economy and culture.”
