Earlier, the unit received an emergency report about a barge, registration number KG 49470, which was en route from Rach Gia city to Phu Quoc, encountered strong winds and high waves, leading to its sinking near Hon Tre of Kien Hai district.

According to Le Hoang Vu in Vinh Thong ward, Rach Gia city, his family rented the barge from Hong Hai Binh in Duong Dong ward to transport sand and stones from the mainland to the island. The barge was captained by Le Van Tien, with Nguyen Van Thai as the chief engineer and Lam Van Vu as a crew-member. At the time of the accident, the barge was carrying approximately 600 tons of sand and bricks.

The barge departed from Vinh Xuong district of An Giang province on September 1. Early morning on September 2, while traveling from Rach Gia to Phu Quoc, it encountered strong winds and high waves near Hon Tre, causing it to sink.

As reported, after being taken to Tay Yen Border Post, the three victims had their health checked. Since their health was stable, they have been brought back to the mainland.

* Also on September 2, the Logistics-Technical Service Center of Truong Sa (Spratly) Island (under Naval Flotilla 129 of the Naval Service) coordinated with Ship 746 of Flotilla 129 to successfully tow trawler BD 96095 TS to the dry lock of Truong Sa Island for repair and to resolve the main engine issue.

Trawler BD 96095 TS experienced engine failure and went adrift at sea, so the crew-members contacted the center and asked for assistance.

Immediately, the center asked Ship 746 which was performing mission nearby, to approach the scene. At 6p.m. the same day, the trawler was safely towed to the dry lock of Truong Sa Island and was technically checked by the center’s technicians.
