According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Huu Hung, Deputy Director of the ministry's Search and Rescue Department under the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, more than 200,000 troops have been mobilized to help people overcome the consequences of ongoing natural disasters.

Over the past days, due to complicated developments of floods, the Military Region 5 Command has directed its affiliated agencies and units to urgently evacuate people to safer areas.

Troops evacuating local people to safer areas

Heavy rains on October 11 seriously damaged residents' assets and submerged many houses in Tam Dan commune, Phu Ninh district, Quang Nam province. In this context, the Military Command of Phu Ninh district sent local troops and vehicles to immediately evacuate local people to safer sites.

According to the Military Command of Quang Nam province, ten districts in the province are heavily flooded. The provincial Military Command established a Department of Search and Rescue in Dai Loc district to direct its affiliated units to support people. The same day, the province's armed forces evacuated 2,816 people to safer areas.

In response to the complicated development of the storm and floods, the Military Region 5 Command also set up two working groups to inspect natural disaster prevention and control work in Da Nang city, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai province. Senior Colonel Le Ngoc Hai, Deputy Commander of Military region 5 asked agencies and units to continue to implement appropriate measures and mobilize forces to help local people overcome the consequences of floods and move them to safer areas.

The military units were requested to provide food for flood-hit people and support them in overcoming difficulties to stabilize their lives at the soonest time.
