Troops and militiamen help overcome flood consequences in Nghe An province
PANO – Prolonged heavy rains in Ky Son border district, Nghe An province have caused landslides blocking the two communes of Bao Nam and Bao Thang.
In this situation, local authorities have mobilized forces to deal with the problem. Meanwhile, Ky Son district’s Military Command has sent nearly 400 troops and militiamen to the scene to support the local people.
Deputy Chairman of Ky Son district’s People’s Committee Tho Ba Re said that, currently, there are still hundreds of households isolated in the areas and the locality is doing its utmost to guarantee smooth traffic.
Notably, torrential rains also have caused a 700m crack on the main road in Nam Tien 2 hamlet of Bao Nam commune, which is going to affect 52 houses. At present, all families in the danger area have been evacuated to a kindergarten.
Meanwhile, if the rainfall continues, flash floods can occur. Thus, local authorities are preparing for an emergency evacuation plan of vulnerable people in the predicted areas or flood-prone areas.
According to Colonel Nguyen Thanh Dong, Commanding Officer of the Ky Son district Military Command, there are hundreds of landslides along roads in the district. Recent incessant rains have impacted locals’ houses, and inundated crops and aquatic farms. His troops give priority to provide food to isolated areas, ensure smooth traffic flow, and evacuate people in affected areas to safer places.
