Secretary of the Party Committee of Hang De Sua village Giang A Chu still cannot forget the devastating flood, sweeping away five houses. A large area of rice and crops was destroyed. Fortunately, the flooding did not cause any loss of lives.

On arriving in the localities, 84 troops and militiamen, led by Lieutenant Colonel Giang A Ly, Second-in-Command and Chief of Staff of the Military Command of Mu Cang Chai, promptly set up a field station and headed to flood-stricken areas to help locals rebuild houses, do the cleanup, and repaid rural roads.

Head of the Military Command of Mo De commune Mua A Sua joined other troops and militiamen to rebuild the house of Giang A Ga in Hang De Sua village. He felt happy since the house was nearly completed. According to Mua A Sua, part of Giang A Ga’s house was swept away by floodwater, so his family and he had to contemporarily live in a leftover wing without bed, mat, and blanket. Leaning about his family’s situation, forces were running against time to rebuild his house, thus soon bringing their life back to normal.

While other forces were promptly building houses, doing the cleanup, and repairing roads, Lieutenant Giang A Ly quietly met with local people to talk and learn about their difficulties, thoughts, and aspirations.

As a H’mong ethnic minority person, Col. Ly understands the importance of clean water to ethnic minority people after flood. Therefore, he carefully checked the water pipe system connecting ravines and households in the village right after reaching the locality. With financial support from the Yen Bai provincial Military Command, militiamen and he returned to Mu Cang Chai townlet to buy water pipes to replace the broken ones. Col. Ly and Head of the Military Command of Lao Chai townlet Giang A Chu then conducted the repairing, successfully bringing water to locals in Hang De Sua and Xeo Di Ho villages.

Earlier, thoroughly grasping the conditions and needs of flood-hit people, Lieutenant Colonel Giang A Ly agreed to advise the party committees and authorities of the three communes to mobilize their mobile militia forces to help locals overcome the natural disasters consequences. The timely presence of troops and militiamen has helped locals feel secure.

Accompanying those in difficult circumstances

All participating troops and militiamen of Che Cu Nha, Mo De, and De Xu Phinh communes could not hold their tears when witnessing the situation of the family of Giang A Ga after their house and properties were swept away by floodwater. Ga’s children did not have enough proper food to eat for days.

According to Political Commissar of the Military Command of Mu Cang Chai district Colonel Do Hong Thanh, together with assisting locals in overcoming the consequences of the flooding, troops of the district’s armed forces have shared their vegetables, rice, and meat to ease locals’ difficulties after the flood. They also asked those whose houses were completely swept away to have simple field meals with them.

Almost all of public projects and houses have been cleaned. All rural roads have been cleared for traffic. Families who lost their houses in the flood have been well accommodated and waiting for their new houses to be completed by troops and militiamen.

Thanks to the care of local party committees and authorities, and efforts of troops and militiamen of Military Region 2, the life of people in Hang De Sua village and other localities severely stricken by the historic flood has gradually returned to normal.
