Son Vi commune is home to 10 ethnic minority groups. Due to the harsh terrain and climate conditions, Son Vi faces significant difficulties, including a high poverty rate of over 60%. The literacy level of part of the population is still limited, making them susceptible to being lured and enticed by hostile forces, potentially causing insecurity and disorder in border areas.

Against the backdrop, Son Vi Border Post has clearly identified the role and importance of mass mobilization work ensuring the people's hearts and minds, strengthening and consolidating the military-civilian great solidarity as important and key tasks to successfully accomplish important political tasks of the country and locality. The unit has focused on disseminating information to raise public awareness of following the Party’s guidelines and State’s laws and policies, building new-style rural areas, and developing society and economy in the region, among others.

Major Nguyen Hong Quang, Political Commissar of Son Vi Border Post, emphasized that with the attention and investment of the Party and the State, the material and spiritual life of ethnic minorities in Son Vi commune has been significantly improved.  Together with the local authorities, officers and soldiers of the unit always have a firm grasp of the area, actively mobilizing people to bring new plants and breeds with high productivity, quality, and high economic efficiency into production to increase income and stabilize life.

Giang Mi Lia in Leo Cha Phin B hamlet, Son Vi commune held that the border guards have always been with them. They disseminated information about laws and mobilized students to keep up with their study at school. They also support farming and prevent early marriages. “We trust them completely,” added Lia.

Notably, they conducted many programs, especially the “Paving the way to school for children - Adopted children of border posts” program. The unit has adopted six children, supports 14 others and takes care of two orphaned students, Tho Mi Lau and Sinh Mi Sinh, who are in seventh grade.
