In Tan Phuoc fishing port (Phuoc Tinh commune), a mission of Phuoc Tinh Border Station installed loudspeakers to disseminate information for ship owners and fishermen about the European Commission (E.C.)’s regulations on fisheries exploitation, underlining 12 acts of fishing vessels engaged in IUU fishing, among others.

Additionally, the mission visited the checkpoint of Phuoc Tinh border guard force to conduct information dissemination activities, as well as presented 120 national flags and distributed 120 leaflets to fishermen in Tan Phuoc fishing port.

According to Colonel Nguyen Van Phuong, Political Commissar of Phuoc Tinh Border Station, over the past time, the border station has drawn up concrete plans to popularize IUU fishing prevention among fishermen in the unit’s stationed areas, contributing to soon removing E.C.’s yellow card.

Particularly, the unit has pro-actively given recommendations to higher levels and closely coordinated with local authorities and functional forces to conduct dissemination activities about IUU fishing prevention and associated administrative measures, focusing on ship owners and crew-members.

These activities have contributed to raising fishermen’s awareness of and heightening their responsibility in observing regulations while conducting fishing activities, and preventing IUU fishing, contributing to Vietnam’s efforts to remove the E.C.’s “yellow card” on Vietnamese seafood in the time to come.
