“Lessons in border areas” model attracts a large number of students in Son Vi commune. |
Through this practical approach, legal awareness and patriotism are cultivated from an early age, contributing to the strengthening of the people’s heart posture in border areas.
In the late afternoon, we arrived at Sin Phin Chu village, Son Vi commune. Clouds drifted down slowly from the limestone mountains, while cold gusts swept across the slopes. Yet, at the foot of border marker No.465, a special “class” remained lively.
That day’s lesson did not take place in a familiar classroom but began right at the sovereignty marker. Standing in a circle of students from Thuong Phung Semi-boarding Primary School for Ethnic Minorities, Captain Duong Minh Keo from the Border Post of Sam Pun border gate under the Tuyen Quang provincial Border Guard Command patiently explained. Pointing to each detail on the marker, he clarified its numbering, the borderline, and the historical and legal significance behind every engraved mark. Concepts about national sovereignty and border demarcation became easy to understand.

Students not only listen but also directly engage in handling real-life scenarios, gradually developing a stronger sense of law compliance.
Beyond raising awareness, students also take part in cleaning activities around the border markers, collecting rubbish along the paths leading to them, fostering a sense of responsibility toward the environment and border areas.

According to Tran Van Dong, Vice Principal of Thuong Phung Semi-boarding Primary School for Ethnic Minorities, the “Lessons in border areas” model enables students to access knowledge through real-life experiences, helping them better understand the national border, sovereignty, and their responsibilities to their hometown. Therefore, the school places emphasis on coordinating with the border guard force to organize practical, experience-based activities, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of students’ comprehensive education.
