Speaking at the event, Rear Admiral Nguyen Phong Canh, Political Commissar of Naval Region 2 stressed that the program aims to improve the quality and effectiveness of information dissemination activities to support fishermen in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province to fish at sea in a safe and legal manner, in line with the building of the whole people's defense posture at sea, and protection of national sovereignty over the seas and islands.

The program focuses on disseminating information about the position and the importance of seas, maritime boundary delimitation agreements between Vietnam and regional countries, Vietnam's legal documents on seas and legal exploitation of aquatic products in couple with environmental protection, and situations in the sea.

Accordingly, the Naval Region 2 Command will instruct its troops who are on-duty within the sea to provide food, fresh water, and necessities to needy fishermen; and perform search and rescue tasks, as well as to coordinate with local functional agencies to implement policies to encourage fishermen to continue far-sea fishing.

Over the past 10 years, the Naval Service has mobilized 30,000 troops to take part in 1,200 social support activities; sent 548 ships, 19 aircraft, and hundreds of cars, canoes to rescue nearly 2,000 fishermen, and fixed 251 distressed vehicles at sea.

After the launching ceremony, the Naval Region 2 Command presented 250 national flags, 100 life buoys, and 10 gifts, worth VND 70 million, to needy fishermen.
