MR5 active ahead of Conson storm
PANO – The Military Region 5 (MR5) Command on September 10 ordered military commands of the seven city and provinces of Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, and Ninh Thuan to take measures in response to the upcoming storm Conson.
The units were urged to call on more than 26,000 vessels and boats, with 182,000 fishermen on board, to come ashore to avoid the storm. Meanwhile, they should make good preparations to brace for the storm while strictly observing COVID-19 prevention and control measures.

The units stationed in areas at risk of floods, flash floods, and landslides are ready to move to the evacuation areas and prepare vehicles to support local people. Meanwhile, in the provinces of Quang Nam, Phu Yen, and Gia Lai, MR5 has established three forward command posts for natural disaster prevention and control, as well as search and rescue missions.

In addition to preparing for the natural disaster, the region has also closely worked with local authorities to ensure logistic and medical supplies for the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic with absolute safety.

According to the unit’s Political Commissar Colonel Phan Huy Chung, they prioritized assisting needy and policy households as well as localities implementing social distancing in Phu Nhuan commune, Yen Tho commune, and Ben Sung townlet.
Thanh Hoa province had 116,587 hectares of rice now. Many rice fields have now entered the harvest season, with the ripe rice area accounting for 80 percent or more. Over 10,000 hectares have been harvested. Before the storm Conson makes landfall, troops will help the locals harvest the remaining rice.
