The fisherman, Pham Van Tra, was aboard trawler BD 96768 with Ly Van Vang from Binh Dinh province at the helm. On August 7, while fishing in the Truong Sa (Spratly) waters, some 80 nautical miles Southeast of Son Ca Island, the fisherman took a false step, causing his head bumping into a bulkhead. As a result, he lost consciousness and began bleeding.
The trawler’s captain immediately contacted the coastal information station and was instructed by Search and Rescue Center Region 3 to sail the trawler to Son Ca Island.
At noon on August 8, a medical team of the Son Ca Island Infirmary gave the fisherman an emergency aid, sutured and dressed the wound on his head. After two hours, the fisherman’s health was no longer in a critical condition. He is now recovering and under further treatment at the infirmary.
