At the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Do Can and delegates recalled the glorious revolutionary traditions of the nation and contribution of Kon Tum people to the national salvation cause. In the resistance wars for national independence, people in Kon Tum province wholeheartedly followed the Party and Uncle Ho and made great contribution to the revolution.

In peacetime, the Party Organizations, authorities, troops and people of the Central Highlands locality have overcome all difficulties and promoted creativeness to obtain important achievements.

On behalf of GDP’s leaders, Senior Lieutenant General Do Can expressed his deep gratitude to the Party Organization, authorities and people of Kon Tum province for their enthusiastic support to the Vietnam People’s Army during its development.  

GDP’s Deputy Chief also took the occasion to brief delegates on the activities of the military over the past time. He affirmed that the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense have actively made recommendations to the Party and State to issue policies for troops and their families and national contributors and effectively carry out gratitude activities.

Over the past time, the military has worked closely with agencies, ministries, and localities to well carry out policies for troops who participated in the resistance wars for national independence and carried out international duties. In addition, agencies and units in the military have actively implemented a project on searching and collecting sets of remains of fallen soldiers and cooperated with the Ministry of Labors, Invalids and Social Affairs in actualizing a project on identifying remains of martyrs. Since 2012, more than 17,700 sets of remains of fallen soldiers have been collected.

From 2013 to now, units in the whole military have given assistance to the construction of more than 6,830 gratitude houses, presented over 5,000 savings books, and taken care of 1,897 heroic Vietnamese mothers.

This year, the military will launch an emulation movement to mark the 75th anniversary of Wounded and Fallen Soldiers' Day with a target of building 500 gratitude houses and giving 500 savings books to policy beneficiaries and needy people who had rendered good services to the revolution.
