At the meeting, Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs said that in the national salvation cause, Fatherland protection war, and in doing international duties, the armed forces and people of Vinh Long province stayed united, promoted patriotism, joined hands with troops and people throughout the country to contribute personnel and materials, for the national liberation and reunification.
The province has managed more than 70,000 policy beneficiaries and national contributors, including 16,300 fallen troops, 4,500 wounded soldiers, 2,850 heroic Vietnamese mothers with 96 who are still alive.
Mr. Tuan said that the province has thoroughly implemented policies for national contributors.
Addressing the meeting, Senior Colonel Doan Quang Hoa affirmed that over the past time, the military has actively and proactively advised the Party and State to issue and implement policies related to the military and troops’ families.
The MND has coordinated with ministries, departments, party committees, and authorities of localities to deal with a large number of unsettled policies for servicemen participating in the resistance wars against the French colonialists and U.S. imperialists, Fatherland protection war, and serving international duties. The MND has also implemented projects on searching and repatriating remains of fallen troops with high sense of responsibility, and led the whole military to take care of families of national contributors, and carry out gratitude activities.
According to Colonel Hoa, since 2013, 15,644 sets of remains of martyrs have been collected nationwide. Military units have built 6,838 gratitude houses, presented 5,609 savings books, provided equipment to needy convalescent centers for wounded soldiers, and supported 2,897 heroic Vietnamese mothers with a total sum of VND 680 billion.

These activities have helped improve the material and spiritual life of policy beneficiaries and national contributors, and educate troops of the nation’s good tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source.”
