According the Political Chief of the Coast Guard Region 1, Colonel Cao Xuan Quan, the “Coast guards stand by fishermen” program in Nghia Hung district was to further realize the coordination program between the local leadership and the coast guard force.
The activity was also to effectively disseminate the Law on Vietnam Coast Guard, national sovereignty over sea and islands as well as the role of the coast guard force in general and Coast Guard Region 1 in particular in enforcing law at sea and safeguarding national sovereignty over sea and islands.

The event demonstrated coast guard troops’ sentiment and responsibility for policy beneficiaries, religious practitioners, and needy fishermen. It also encouraged needy students to overcome difficulties to obtain better academic results and supported fishermen to keep fishing at sea.
During the program, the organizing panel offered incense and flower at the War Cemetery of Nghia Thanh commune of Nghia Hung district in remembrance of fallen soldiers, held the “I love national sea and islands” contest, and presented souvenirs to participating schools in the contest.
The Coast Guard Region 1 Command’s leaders visited and presented gifts to three heroic Vietnamese mothers, 97 gifts to policy beneficiaries and needy fishermen, and 40 bicycles and 30 gifts to needy students with excellent academic results. The mission also gave souvenirs as gifts to the Party committees and authorities of Nghia Thanh, Quy Nhat, Nghia Hai and Phuc Thang communes.
Coast guard troops also took the occasion to popularize the Law on Vietnam Coast Guard, illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing regulations, and Law on prevention of harmful effects of drugs. They also guided fishermen to protect their safety while fishing at sea.
In addition, the organizing panel presented 2,000 national flags, 20 medical bags, and 100 lifebuoys and distributed 2,500 leaflets with different kinds of information to fishermen in the district.
