Defense leader meets with voters in Dong Thap
PANO - On March 1, General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister, deputy to the 15th National Assembly (N.A.) and candidate for the 16th N.A. (2026–2031 tenure), together with other candidates of Electoral Unit No.5, met with voters in Tan Phuoc 1 and Tan Phu communes and connected online with voters in Chau Thanh, Tan Huong, Long Dinh, Long Hung, Binh Trung, Vinh Kim, Kim Son, Hung Thanh and Tan Phuoc 3 communes in Dong Thap province.
Hundreds of voters attended the conference in person or gathered at online connection points early to follow the program. After the organizing committee introduced the qualifications and standards of the candidates, each presented their action program.

In a democratic, frank and responsible atmosphere, voters expressed their confidence in the candidates’ political qualities, competence, ethics and lifestyle, and appreciated their action programs as being closely aligned with local realities. They also raised questions on issues of public concern such as the Land Law, preferential policies for national contributors, motorbike insurance, housing support for disadvantaged groups, rural transport and environmental sanitation. Voters emphasized that, if elected, deputies should maintain close contact with constituents, regularly listen to and reflect their aspirations to the N.A. and relevant authorities for timely consideration and settlement.
Addressing the conference, General Nguyen Tan Cuong pledged that, if elected, he would uphold his responsibility as a representative of the people; maintain close ties with local Party committees, authorities and voters in Dong Thap and nationwide; devote time to meeting and listening to voters’ legitimate opinions and proposals; and effectively serve as a bridge between voters and the N.A., the Government, central ministries and agencies. He was also committed to supervising the implementation of the Party’s guidelines, State laws and N.A. resolutions, as well as issues of concern to voters both locally and nationwide.

Gen. Cuong affirmed his determination to fulfill the duties of an N.A. deputy, living up to the trust and expectations of voters.
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, he extended his best wishes for health, happiness and success to local Party committees, authorities and voters. During the visit, he also offered incense and flowers at the Special National Relic Site of Ap Bac Victory in Tan Phu commune.
