Ship 9001 is towing the troubled trawler ashore |
At noon on March 10, trawler KH99036-TS, captained by Do Minh Chuong from Ngoc Hiep ward, Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province, went adrift due to engine failure caused by a previously-broken propeller about 80 nautical miles off Phu Quy Island, Phan Thiet city.
Upon receiving the mayday alert, the Vietnam Coast Guard's Region 3 Command immediately sent ship 9001, which was on a patrol nearby the scene, for the rescue mission.
Due to harsh weather at that time, it took the rescuers over 10 hours to approach the troubled trawler, which was then towed to Phu Quy Island.
