Accordingly, participants were provided with information about illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing prevention and combat regulations, Vietnam Coast Guard Law; Vietnam’s Law of the Sea; Fisheries Law; the Prime Minister’s instructions on preventing illegal fishing in foreign waters; among others.
Le Van Han, a representative of the Lach Hoi Fishing Port Management Board, noted that over the past time, the board has regularly disseminated information about IUU fishing prevention and control via loudspeaker system at the port. In addition, the board has also strictly managed the trawlers. The coast guards’ law dissemination work at the port has contributed to raising public awareness of laws and regulations while operating at sea, thereby together with the locality to develop a sustainable and responsible fisheries industry.
According to Senior Colonel Tran Van Nam, Political Commissar of Flotilla 11, the whole political system is attaching much importance to mobilizing all resources to take measures to prevent and control IUU fishing as regulated. Therefore, the flotilla is doing its utmost to prevent and stop the violation of IUU fishing in foreign waters before April 30, 2024. The dissemination work in Lach Hoi Fishing Port has contributed to raising local fishermen’s awareness of the Vietnamese waters and to obey laws, together with functional forces to remove the European Commission’s yellow card on IUU fishing.
