In the spirit of “sharing is caring,” Keng Du Border Post coordinated with the Party Committee and government of Keng Du commune (Ky Son district) to officially put the “Charity house” there into operation just before the Lunar New Year.

With the construction kicked off in September 2021, the “Charity house” has 2 compartments firmly-built on the area of 50 square meters.

Thanks to the coordination between the troops and local agencies and organizations, the “Charity house” was completed as scheduled.

“Keng Du commune offers land and donated 10 million VND while the Association of Nghe An Fellow-countrymen in Hanoi contributed 100 million VND and the officers and soldiers of the border post presented nearly 1,500 sets of clothes,” said Major Trinh Van Nghia, Commanding Officer of Ken Du Border Post.

After its inauguration, Keng Du Border Post’s “Charity house” is now the place for local citizens to visit and choose suitable items for themselves and their families.

“What I like best is that I myself can pick up clothes and necessities for my family. The house gives us massive support because everything is free,” said Moong Thi  Noi at Huoi Phuon 1 village, Keng Do commune.

“Keng Du commune has 4,636 residents from the 2 main ethnic groups of Kho Mu and Thai living in hardships. Although much effort has been made in eradicating hunger and alleviating poverty, the number of poor households is still quite high (780 poor and 70 near-poor households, accounting for 87.8% of the locality’s households). The ‘Charity house’ is practically meaningful to the poor,” said Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Keng Du People’s Committee Luong Pho Ngam.

Keng Du Border Post’s “Charity house” is the fourth of its kind built by Nghe An Border Guard Command. Previously, My Ly Border Post’s “Charity house” in Huoi Cang 1 (Bac Ly commune, Ky Son district) was built in January 2021. In November 2021, the “Charity house” of Na Ngoi Border Post was erected in Na Ngoi village (Na Ngoi commune, Ky Son district). Chau Khe Border Post (Con Cuong district) also put one similar house in operation a month later.

“The success of this initiative encourages the provincial border guard command to build more charity houses in remote areas. We will mobilize resources to construct new houses at Na Loi, Muong Ai, Nam Can, and Nhon Mai international border gates in 2022,” said Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Cam, Deputy Political Chief of Nghe An Border Guard Command.

“It is necessary to coordinate closely with localities, agencies, businesses and other people to mobilize resources, ensuring the effectiveness of the model, ensuring that the houses are reliable addresses for the poor in border areas of Nghe An province,” said Colonel Le Nhu Cuong, Political Commissar of Nghe An provincial Border Guard Command.
