Needy households receive financial support to build “Great unity houses.”

Quang Nham commune was chosen by the provincial Border Guard Command and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee’s Thua Thien Hue chapter to start the event for other localities in the province to follow.

Reportedly, Quang Nham is among the disadvantaged border communes of A Luoi district. Ethnic minority people make up 80% of its population. Attentively, 1,001 households in the commune, accounting for 80%, are living in poverty and near poverty. The education level there is low.

Over the past time, apart from effectively managing, protecting the border and preventing COVID-19, Nham Border Post has actively teamed with local authorities to develop plans and models to help locals develop economy, eliminate hunger, and reduce poverty. Exemplary models include “rice jars with compassion,” “Supporting children to go to school,” “Party members in charge of households,” among others.

In his speech, Vice Chairman of A Luoi district’s People’s Committee Ho Van Ngum spoke highly of the role and responsibility of the border guards in general and of Nham Border Post in particular. He affirmed the border guard force’s great contribution to local hunger elimination and poverty reduction and raising locals’ awareness and education level through their practical deeds and models.

At the event, the provincial Border Guard Command presented “For national sovereignty and border security” insignia to four individuals with contribution to the national border management, sovereignty protection and border guard force-building.

The command also gave VND 80 million to build two “Great unity houses” for two needy households.

The same day, the provincial Border Guard Command, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee’s Thua Thien Hue chapter, and local authorities started the construction of a “Great unity house” for Cu Doan, a resident in Pi Ay 1 hamlet, Quang Nham commune.
