At the meeting, Senior Colonel Do Hiep Thang, Deputy Director of the Department of Logistics of the Vietnam Border Guard Command and Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control of the command, stressed that the steering committee gave timely advice to the command to direct its affiliates to conduct drastic measures against the pandemic in line with higher levels’ directions and in the spirit of “Fighting the pandemic is like fighting an enemy.”
According to Senior Colonel Thang, border troops have accomplished their dual tasks of implementing border-related affairs and effectively controlling COVID-19.
Colonel Thang also highlighted border units’ good preparation of COVID-19 prevention plans and approaches, close coordination with other relevant local forces to curb the pandemic. Moreover, thanks to border leaders’ thoughtfulness, encouragement, and timely commendation, border guards have overcome difficulties, raised responsibility and fulfilled all assignments.
Also at the meeting, the participants straightforwardly pointed out shortcomings in COVID-19 prevention and control work and made proposals to improve the efficiency of the work in the coming time.
In his concluding speech, Lt. Gen. Le Duc Thai hailed Party committees, commanding officers, steering committees for COVID-19 prevention and control at all levels, and all border troops for their good task performance over the past time.
In order to fix shortcomings, Gen. Thai asked border agencies and units to embrace and implement higher levels’ decisions and directions on the work while maintaining combat readiness and observing duty regulations, including those on COVID-19 prevention duties.
Apart from drawing lesson learnt, units were asked to develop suitable COVID-19 prevention approaches in line with the pandemic situations. Moreover, they should comprehensively apply COVID-19 prevention measures to minimizing the spread of the virus and strictly dealing with violations.
Currently, tens of thousands of border guards are serving in fixed and mobile COVID-19 prevention teams and on duty at checkpoints. Hundreds of border guards are patrolling and managing the Southwestern waters of the nation to prevent illegal entry and exit, contributing to COVID-19 prevention and control efforts. Furthermore, some 108 medical personnel of border units are supporting units in southern provinces to fight the pandemic.
