Scholarships granted to 100 needy students

The activity is part of the first-ever Vietnam - Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange, which is scheduled to take place in mid-December this year in Huong Hoa district of the Vietnamese province of Quang Tri and in Seponh district of the Lao province of Savannakhet.

Accordingly, the command in association with Seponh district authority of the Lao province of Savannakhet presented scholarships to 50 needy students and breeding cows to 10 needy families in Phuong and Densavan villages. In addition, the unit collaborated with Huong Hoa District People’s Committee to hand over scholarships to 50 students and breeding cows to 10 disadvantaged families in Lao Bao town and Tan Thanh commune. Each scholarship is worth VND 3 million and each breeding cow costs VND 15 million.

Senior Colonel Nguyen Xuan Toan, Political Commissar of the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard Command, held that the program aimed to encourage needy students to overcome difficulties to gain best academic results and help disadvantaged families to stablize their life soon.

Chairman of Seponh district Vongsavan Viengmany thanked the Vietnamese Defense Ministry for the meaningful gifts and promised to direct the local authorities to guide the people how to raise cows and ask the schools to create favorable conditions for needy students.
