The fact has proved that prestigious people in border areas are “living border markers,” “fulcrums,” and important bridges to connect local people, party committees, authorities, agencies, and organizations, and border posts, to carry out the mission of managing and protecting border areas and building and consolidating grassroots political system. Well aware of the importance of the prestigious people, over the past time, the Party Committee of Ban May Border Post of the Ha Giang provincial Border Guard Command has paid attention to mobilizing prestigious people to carry out the mission.

Ban May commune in Hoang Su Phi district, Ha Giang province borders China’s Du Long town and holds strategic importance in defense and security. Over the past time, the image of troops of Ban May Border Post and prestigious people patrolling has become familiar to local residents.
Seventy-year-old Hoang Xin Phu, a La Chi man and former chairman of Ban May commune, is among the prestigious people directly participating in patrols to protect security in border areas. Despite his old age, he wishes to contribute to border guard force’s efforts in mobilizing people to participate in protecting border security.
The participation of prestigious elders in patrols serves as an encouragement and motivation for troops of Ban May Border Post to well carry out their assigned missions. Head of the post’s Mass Mobilization Team Captain Tran Ngoc Minh said that the prestigious elders’ stories about the indomitable fighting spirit of Vietnamese troops and people and the close relationship between people living along the border line have energized the unit’s troops and enhanced their responsibility to carry out the mission of managing and protecting sovereignty and security in border areas assigned by the Party, State, and people.
In addition, cadres and party members of the border post have actively mobilized prestigious people who are also party members to fully attend meetings of local party organizations to give recommendations to help party committees effectively lead the building of party committees and implementation of defense and security consolidation and socio-economic development missions.
According to Party Secretary and Political Commissar of Ban May Border Post Colonel Dang Quoc Phong, the unit’s Party Committee has collaborated with the locality’s authorities to promote dissemination, persuade prestigious people to take part in movements, and hold training courses to equip them with knowledge and essential skills of mobilizing others to manage and protect border areas and consolidate grassroots political systems.
Last year, Ban May Border Post, in collaboration with other forces and prestigious locals, conducted 25 patrols, held 48 law dissemination meetings, trained and admitted seven people to the Party, and effectively maintained ten border management teams, among others.
In addition, the unit also paid attention to providing material and spiritual care for local prestigious people through health examination and gift presentation and economic development activities.
Thanks to that, the national sovereignty and security in border areas have been firmly maintained; security and public order have been ensured; the grassroots political system has been consolidated and operated effectively.
