General Secretary of the Vietnam Communist Party, Nong Duc Manh, has called on the Vietnamese Special Forces (Commando) Command to be a loyal, reliable political and elite fighting force dedicated to the Party, Government and people.

Party leader Manh lauded the commando’s achievements while addressing a meeting to mark the 40th anniversary of the Commando Command and to receive the Gold Star Order, an award presented by the Vietnamese Party and State, in Hanoi on March 12. He said the unit has played a vital role in national construction and defence, he said.

During the past struggle for national liberation, the commando forces embodied the ideals of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh. During the current renewal process, the commando forces have excelled in every assigned mission, said Party leader Manh. They have contributed to maintaining the nation’s political stability and security as well as law and social order, particularly during special events such as the 10th National Party Congress in 2006 and the 14thth APEC meeting in 2006.

General Secretary Manh called on the commandos to serve as a mainstay of national defence. He said it was important for the commandos to absorb Party and State guidelines while sharpening their combat skills and applying new technology.
