At the meeting conference |
Present at the meeting were General Luong Cuong, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army; Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Deputy Defense Minister and Chief of the General Staff; Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Defense Minister; leaders and commanders of defense agencies and military units under the Ministry of National Defense.
The current situation of the COVID-19 outbreak has left negative impacts on business production, social-economic development and people's lives. However, the military has raised its sense of responsibility in preventing COVID-19 from spreading.
The MND launched an online exercise in response to COVID-19 with the participation of hundreds of military units across the country. Meanwhile, the military has also set up 140 concentrated areas for people coming from areas infected by the virus. So far, the military units have received and quarantined nearly 44,800 Vietnamese expatriates.
The military medical sector has taken care of people' health in the quarantine areas. Earlier, the Military Medical Academy under the MND has successfully produced two test kits to detect the virus.
These great contributions from the military on COVID-19 prevention and control have been appreciated by the Government and people.
The units have also maintained their training and combat readiness missions, as well as detect and prevent people from violating regulations on land and at sea. Despite the impacts of the epidemic, the military units have ensured the quality of training for their troops. In general, the military has successfully completed both regular and unexpected tasks of March 2020, thereby maintaining the good virtues, traditions and image of Uncle Ho's soldiers.
Concluding the conference, General Ngo Xuan Lich requested military agencies and units to prepare for the major holidays in 2020, especially during the celebration of the Southern Liberation on April 30 and Labor Day on May 1. In addition, the units should continue to take measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, create the best favorable conditions and ensure safety for quarantined people.
As for the missions in the coming time, the top MND official asked the military units to strictly follow regulations, implement combat readiness missions, and closely follow situations so as to promptly deal with unexpected problems. Relevant agencies should prepare documents for the 11th Military Party Congress and continue the fight against wrongful allegations by hostile forces.
At the event, General Ngo Xuan Lich praised the military units for their great contributions in preventing and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as in supporting people in overcoming the consequences of the droughts and saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta.
