* On July 27, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and Deputy Defense Minister, chaired a meeting to review task implementation in the first six months of 2022.

Reportedly, in the first half of this year, the General Staff strictly directed organs and units in the whole military to complete their military-defense missions, promptly made recommendations to the Central Military Commission and Ministry of National Defense to submit proposals to the Party and State on guidelines and measures to address any circumstances and safeguard the national sovereignty.

In addition, the General Staff built documents; carried out resolutions and plans on organizing the VPA in the 2021-2030 period; held training courses, competitions and exercises with absolute safety; and kept forces on standby to conduct natural disaster response and search and rescue missions.

In his concluding speech, General Cuong highly appreciated the whole military’s task performance over the past time, while at the same time pointing out several shortcomings and requiring them to soon overcome.

He requested units in the whole military to further focus on effectively dealing with issues on islands and at sea; fighting terrorism threats; maintaining combat readiness; working with relevant central and local agencies and authorities to bring into play strategies, resolutions and conclusions of the Party and State on military-defense; and studying long-term and basic measures on sea and islands related to military-defense tasks.

* On the same day, the Ministry of National Defense reviewed the scientific, technical and technological work under the chair of its Deputy Minister Senior Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh.

Reports delivered at the event underlined that the work was thoroughly rolled out in the whole military in line with resolutions of the Party and Central Military Commission and directions of the Ministry of National Defense.

Concluding the meeting, General Vinh asked units in the whole military to further deploy missions on this work, particularly in implementing major scientific projects, applying achievements of the fourth Industrial Revolution to reality, and boosting digital transformation and e-government building, to name but a few.

* During the similar event, the General Department of Logistics stressed that since the beginning of this year, they successfully ensured logistics for combat readiness and all missions in the whole military.

The General Department of Logistics actively issued documents and provided equipment for exercises, joined hands in search and rescue tasks, preventing the COVID-19 pandemic, implemented Party and political work, and conducted gratitude activities.

* Meanwhile, the General Department of Technical Services directed the military technical sector and units to fulfill their assigned tasks; ensured technical work for the military’s exercises and training programs; reviewed and approved projects to purchase, repair and upgrade weapons, equipment and ammunition; carried out the Campaign “Good, durable, and safe management of weapons and equipment and traffic safety” (Campaign 50); and built strong and firm Party organizations.

* Moreover, the General Department of Defense Industry reported that they successfully directed and rolled out all assigned missions, especially in recommending the Central Military Commission to submit a proposal to the Politburo to release a resolution on developing the defense industry sector by 2030 and the years to come; completed a file on building the Law on Defense Industry and Security and Industrial Mobilization to collect feedback from ministries, sectors and localities; and further raising capacity on producing and repairing weapons and equipment.

* In similar conferences, the Air Defense - Air Force Service, Vietnam Coast Guard Command, Engineering Corps, and Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center emphasized their determination to effectively implement all assigned tasks in the second half of this year with absolute safety.
