Military units brace for storm Sonca
PANO - The Department of Search and Rescue under the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army on July 24 instructed the commands of military regions 1, 2, 3, 4, the Vietnam Border Guard, the Navy, the Air Defense - Air Force Service, the Vietnam Coast Guard, the Hanoi Capital Military Command, Army Corps 1, 2, 3, and the Engineer Corps to prepare forces and means for upcoming storm Sonca.

Also the same day, the border troops of coastal provinces and cities from Quanh Ninh to Khanh Hoa cooperated with localities and families of ship and boat owners to check and guide 64,894 vessels and informed 265,147 people about the developments and direction of the storm so that they can proactively find shelters and apply safety measures.
At present, 8,555 border troops and 214 vehicles are on active duty, closely following the developments of the storm so that timely and sufficient information can be fed to more than 3,000 fishermen on board 415 boats fishing offshore in the Hoang Sa waters.
All military units have now well prepared forces and vehicles to deal with consequences of the storm. In more details, more than 400,000 personnel, including 20,043 troops and 201,743 militiamen, have been mobilized. In terms of equipment, units are ready to deploy 3,202 vehicles (seven ships, 708 canoes, 929 automobiles, 47 specialized vehicles, and 47 amphibious vehicles) and other 160,794 equipment items.
