PANO – The General Department of Politics held a meeting on the afternoon of January 11th in the Vietnam Military Historical Museum to summarize and present prizes to winners in the 2012 written contest “Writing articles on environment in the Army”.

The contest was launched on July 30th, 2012 and by December 31st, 2012, the organizing board received more than 500,000 pieces of writing from officers and soldiers across the Army and selected 9,750 good works. Then the examining section continued to select some 800 from the 9,750 written pieces.

According to examiners, it was hard for them to select the best pieces in the final round as many pieces had good contents.

At the awarding ceremony, leaders of the General Department of Politics presented 3 prizes to organizations, which had had the largest number of participants in the contest, and 59 other prizes to individuals with outstanding written pieces.     

Addressing the awarding ceremony, Vice-Director of the General Department of Politics, Lieutenant General Mai Quang Phan praised the efforts of the organizing board and all participants in the contest.

He stressed that environmental protection was a vital affair of each nation and that for some countries in the world environmental protection was viewed as important as the implementation of socio-economic development objectives.  

The General said that Vietnam has undergone a number of wars and is now still suffering serious pollution of dioxin and other toxic chemicals as well as numerous bombs, mines and explosives left by the wars; therefore, environmental protection tasks should be heightened.

“All activities of military units on land, in water and in the air are involved in environment, so environmental protection is the responsible of every Party organization, command and individual… Wherever there are military activities, there should be environmental protection activities,” General Phan instructed.
