PANO – A conference on the draft amendment of the Law on Vietnam People’s Army Officers was held in Hanoi on June 24th.

The conference was chaired by General Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of National Defence and Head of the Committee for Drafting Amendments of the law.

The law was adopted in 1999 and was amended in 2003. However, during implementation there emerged some problems such as the military rankings and their positions, with some terminology not matching the current law.

Accordingly, eight out of 51 articles of the law are subject to be revised after a series of workshops at different levels.

The participants to the conference highly valued the preparation of the Ministry of National Defence for the draft amendment that is legal and in accordance with current laws, especially the constitution.

After this conference, the committee for the draft amendments will ask for comments of relevant agencies before finalizing the draft and submitting it for approval.
