During the event, delegates reviewed that in March GS directed the whole military to effectively carry out missions. In particular, units closely followed situational developments, strictly maintained combat readiness, and made recommendations to higher levels to deal with circumstances in a timely and effective manner.

Under GS’s instruction, the whole military effectively carried out training program for new recruits in line with the pandemic situation, mobilized forces and vehicles to conduct search and rescue missions, and strictly observed pandemic prevention and control measures.

Speaking at the event, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong praised the whole military for effective task performance in March and pointed out shortcomings that need to be addressed in the coming time.

The Chief of the General Staff asked the whole military to strictly observe combat readiness regulations; closely follow situation, especially in key areas, to deal with issues in a timely manner; cooperate with public security force to ensure security at important events of the country and military; firmly safeguard the national sovereignty.

He also urged military units to prevent illegal border crossings, promote dissemination of sea- and islands-related information, and take measures to prevent illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

General Cuong asked defense agencies and military units to hold training programs in line with regulations on safe and flexible adaptation to COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control and complete operational documents and plans on conducting combined armed team live-fire exercises. Documents related to education and training should be paid attention to.

Regarding militia force-related work and military and defense education, General Cuong said that in the coming time GS will continue working with relevant agencies of the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission to complete documents on the organization and operation of military Party organization at commune level to submit to the Secretariat. It will also direct the preparations for a contest on the Law on the Militia and Self-Defense Forces.
