At the meeting

At the meeting, the General Staff delivered a report, emphasizing its achievements in 2020 in carrying out advisory roles and leading defense agencies and military units to perform military-defense missions and complete all assigned missions.

In 2020, the General Staff closely followed the development of situations, made accurate forecasts, and gave timely recommendations to the Central Military Commission and MND to handle arising situations. It also directed its affiliates to maintain combat readiness and duty regulations, adjust and complete combat plans, and work closely with forces under the Ministry of Public Security to ensure security during the 13th National Party Congress and other important national events, thereby upholding political security and social order and safety.

On behalf of the MND leadership, General Giang applauded the General Staff, defense agencies, and military units for strictly observing combat readiness procedures, guaranteeing political security, and ensuring social order and safety and a cozy Lunar New Year (Tet) for troops during Tet festival.

Analyzing domestic, regional, and global situations and the military’s mission requirements, General Giang directed the General Staff to continue embracing and implementing the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies on military-defense missions and Fatherland protection in the new period, including the resolutions on leadership over military-defense and Military Party Organization-building missions adopted at the 13th National Party Congress, the 11th Military Party Congress, and those issued by the Central Military Commission.

General Giang also asked the General Staff to promote its advisory role and make suggestions for the Party and State leaders and Central Military Commission and MND to make more sound policies.

The General Staff should also give directions on maintaining combat readiness and closely coordinating with public security forces to ensure security for important national events, including the upcoming election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and people’s councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 period.

Other missions that the General Staff should take on include directing the completion of combat readiness documents, adjusting recruitment drives and training programs amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, improving the capabilities related to legal enforcement for forces on duty in border areas and on islands and at sea, contributing to firmly safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Defense agencies and military units were also requested to overcome difficulties, promote their vanguard role to fulfill their combat mission in peacetime and effectively deal with nontraditional security challenges, and bring into full play the advaqntages created by their last year’s attainments.
