Co-chairs of the event were GDP Director General Luong Cuong and Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council and President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics.
GDP Deputy Director Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet delivered a report on the research. Delegates gave their opinions on the research work as well.
In his speech, General Luong Cuong emphasized the role of political theory in the leadership of the Party and the management of the State and the need to make breakthroughs in the political theory research work.
He emphasized that for the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), the work has contributed to firmly defending the Party’s ideological foundation in the military, providing scientific arguments for planning, building and perfecting the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws in military, national defense and Fatherland protection, and ensuring that in any circumstances, the VPA is always a political force, an absolutely loyal and trustworthy combat force of the Party, State and people, and excellently completes all tasks assigned by the Party, State and people.

He affirmed that since the beginning of the 13rd tenure of the Party Central Committee, the research work has closely followed the military building and the Fatherland protection tasks in the new situation. Research works have clarified the building of all people’s defense posture coupled with people’s security disposition, and a firm people’s heart posture, the building of spiritual and political potential in defensive areas, the building of politically-strong military, the building of an elite, compact, strong military, the protection of the Fatherland early and from afar, and solutions to defend the Party’s ideological foundation and fight against hostile forces’ “peaceful evolution,” “depoliticization of the military” plots, and signs of “self-evolution,” and “self-transformation” in units. The results of the research work have improved the synergy, strength, competence, and combat readiness capability of the whole military, contributing to the military’s completion of its combat, work, and production functions.

Addressing the event, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang spoke highly of the research work in the military, making important suggestions on national construction and defense to the Party Central Committee, helping the committee and the Politburo issue important policies.
He hoped for further coordination with the military in the field, thus further defending the Party’s ideological foundation. He also suggested further grasping, analyzing, and forecasting situations, researching more issues related to the form of war, multilateral international cooperation, analyzing new issues and connotations in the current context.
